The State Russian museum is located in the Michael Palace on the Arts square. It was founded in 1895 by the Emperor Nickolas II and was opened for visitors in 1898 as the Imperial Museum named after Alexander III.

The Museum collections include more than 400 thousand exhibits. There are works of Russian art from the ancient Russian icons of the 11th century and ending with paintings by Filonov, Malevich and Kandinsky. The exhibition covers almost thousand-year period of Russian art.

During the tour you will see Russian icons, including Andrei Rublev and Dionysius, miniature icons of the "Stroganov" school; pictures of artists of Peter's time: Matveyev, Argunov, Nikitin, the great artists of the 19th century: Kiprensky, Ivanov, Bruni, Karl Briullov (his famous painting "the Last day of Pompeii", Aivazovsky ("the Ninth wave"); paintings by artists - Itinerants: Kramskoy, Repin, Shishkin, Polenov, Levitan, and sculptures of prominent sculptors: Shubin, Antokolsky and Rastrelli.

Summer garden tour St. Petersburg

The Summer garden is the oldest garden of the city founded in 1704 year at the place chosen by Peter the Great. The gardener Jan Rosen has developed a garden project based on the layout created by Peter in Dutch Baroque style in 1713-1716.  Now there are about 90 sculptures in the Summer garden. The oldest of them a bust of the Polish king Jan Sobieski and his wife Maria Kazimiera, bust of Queen Christina of Sweden (late 17c.), Bacchus, the sculptor Baratta (early 18th century) and others. The Assemblies, receptions of foreign ambassadors, fireworks were held there. In 1714 the Summer Palace of Peter 1 was built by the architects Trezzini and Shluter. In front of the Palace there is a sculptural group "Peace and abundance" (sculptor Baratta) in honor of the victory in the Northern war. In 1824 architect Rossi built the Coffee house pavilion, and Charlemagne – wooden Tea house pavilion. In 1855 a monument to the fabulist Ivan Krylov (Klodt) was founded.
